Words Matter

Lately, I've been reading and re-reading and editing the rules. Along with the Flowcharts, this helps me to figure out whether the rules are understandable, consistent and accessible.

One of the results of this is that I am streamlining terms. For example, we currently have:

  • Breaks (Dice that show the highest value)
  • Mishaps (Dice that show a 1)
  • Successes (Dice that show the upper half of the value range)
  • Failures (rolled dice pools without any Success🔗es)

I'm not too happy with the "Success🔗" term, because that kinda doubles it with the result of the whole roll, but I am not having a better idea so far.

And I am toying around with https://typst.app - the hope is that I can generate a decently layouted print version of the rulebook mostly automatically, at least as long as I'm tinkering with it. But I fear that'll take awhile still - typst doesn't really like markdown files with includes :)
